I come today baring a few book reviews by the popular author, John Green. Over the past year or so, I don't think I've come across someone of my age who hasn't read or heard of John Green. The Fault in The Stars was top of the book charts for WHSmiths and several other stores over the duration of the summer and it is now being turned into a film! (Which I have mixed feelings about if I'm honest...)
The Fault In Our Stars
I'm not sure whether to do the whole 'star rating' thing, but this has got to be one of my favourite books that
have ever read, and definitely my most favourite from the ones I am reviewing in this post.
I won't spoil the book for any of you who haven't read it yet but The Fault In Our Stars is basically a story about two teenagers who meet when attending a cancer support group. The entirety of the book is about their journey together and how they fall in love while battling illness. They say that if the book makes you cry, it's a good one, and this read had me in floods of tears (this may be because I cry at everything...)At the time that I was reading this book, a family member of mine was going through a very similar series of events as the character Augustus Waters which for me, made the book a lot closer to home and hard hitting and this could be part of the reason that I love it so much but it's definitely one that I recommend to both males and females.
They're turning the novel into a film which will be out in June 2014 and I have mixed feelings about this, mainly because I do about any book that I've read which plans to be turned into a film, but I'm also worried that the actors chosen to play Augustus and Hazel may not be how I conjured them in my mind when reading the story.
An Abundance of Katherine's
I think this is the most recent John Green book I have read (other than Paper Towns which I am half way through). I have to say I did enjoy this book and the whole story line of it is very interesting. I am going to have to admit that I did skip a couple of pages, I know I know, I'm terrible, I didn't miss out on any key or important parts though! I think this is Green's most interesting book and it's definitely one that makes youthink. The character of Colin Singleton is quite engaging as you come to learn how his brain and theory works and the humour and irony throughout the book just makes it a pleasure to read. Although I don't think this is my favourite book by Green, it is one that I'd go back and read again as I think I'd understand it more now.
Looking For Alaska
This novel was the first that introduced me to the work of John Green. Looking For Alaska is great for teenage readers and the story line is both compelling and funny. However, (and I'm trying to explain thiswithout spoiling the book) I did find that after the main event of the story happened, I lost interest, that could just be how I found it though, I haven't really asked anyone else's opinion on it. Again, I do recommend this book to anyone into teenage/life style kind of books (can't really think of anything to compare it too).
I hope that you enjoyed my very first review! There will be more to come, and I'm sorry if I don't post regularly, I'm busy with school and other things at the moment, however, my blog is my escape. I'm now off to make a cup of tea and start writing a 2000 word English essay. It's really not beginning to look a lot like Christmas for me. Bah Humbug.
Peace
